You Can Write About ANYTHING!

I’ve told you I was an infoholic.  I’m working on the habit of printing out information found on the internet  - I’ve got way too much paper in my office already, and besides, if I found it once, I can find it again. But browsing through used books in flea markets and bargain shelves in book stores has convinced me – you CAN write about anything!

Remember the Seinfeld episode on the Coffee Table Book?  Well, there really are books about coffee tables!  I didn’t find one that folds out to a table, but  it wouldn’t have Apronssurprised me if I had.  There are also books on chairs, covering designs through the centuries. There are books on the history of cast iron cookwear, and others on Christmas traditions.  While waiting for a table at a restaurant, I discovered a book on aprons beside the chairs in the foyer.  It had photographs of aprons that I’ve seen in old movies ( think Lucille Ball or Claudette Colbert) and others that brought back memories of my grandmother’s kitchen.

Recently I was given books that were left behind by a fellow infoholic.  There are books on the history of numbers, several collections of quotations and odd facts, books on how common sayings came to fruition, books on the history of horse racing and how bloodlines are tracked, and innumerable others. Every time I look through the stack, I discover something else.

letter openerSo don’t tell me there’s nothing to write about.  See that can of Dust Remover on the shelf?  Sure, it’s canned air.  But I’ll bet there’s a story behind it.  How about this little letter opener with the prong that slides under the flap and the hidden blade? And, surely there’s a book to be done ( if it’s not out there already) on the history of ink, or cartridges.  Oh, I know!  How about a picture book on Paperweights?  Yeah – somebody’s probably already done that one…

Everything around us started with an idea.  There’s a story of someone who said “Hmmm.  What if….?”  or made an accidental discovery.

And you know what?  If you write about it, us infoholics will probably buy it.
