Are you a day person or a night person? Early mornings, or sleep in? Or are you like me, and totally confused?
I love to watch the sunrise. But I like staying up late, stargazing, going out with friends, and watching old movies, too. Hmmm….maybe I need to break up my sleep time to 4 hours at night and 4 in the middle of the day!
I like to sleep in on weekends but I know if I lay around much after 7 a.m. the day is a bust. I never muster the energy I need for the day. Ironically, sometimes around 9 p.m. or so I get charged up and end up writing, doing laundry, cleaning out closets, or other things until after midnight. Then the cycle starts again the next morning.
But if I get up at my ‘normal’ workday hour of 6 a.m., jump into the shower and wake myself up, I’m ready to conquer the world. I’ve been compelled to start writing at 6 a.m. , discovering at 5 p.m. that I’m still at the computer, pajamas and all, working on my second (or third, or fourth) pot of coffee, and haven’t eaten anything all day.
As long as I’m working, I don’t run out of energy. I’m apparently proof of that ‘body in motion’ theory – once in motion, I stay in motion; once at rest - well, once I take a break, it’s all over. I can’t get started again, or at least I’m sluggish the rest of the day.
Oh, DJ. I long to have that problem ( retirement and no schedule….)
Before I had children, I slept late, but now sleeping past 8:00 is pretty late for me–except when I’ve had a sleepless night. When I can’t go to sleep, I get up and read or write until I get sleepy. Just going with the flow is one of the perks of being retired. It used to make me crazy when I was awake at 2:00 a.m., knowing I had to get up at 6:00. Overall, I’m probably more of a morning person than night owl though.
