Just a bit nostalgic today…..
Are you an Eagles fan? ( The rock group, not the football team…)
If so, you’ll think this is cool, too.
For those of you who don’t get it, here’s a clue….
“Standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, such a fine sight to see. It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford - slowin’ down to take a look at me.”(Lyrics, from Take It Easy by Jackson Brown and Glen Freye)
The businessmen in Winslow, Arizona decided to capitalize on the occasional visitors that came into the town just for a photo shoot. In 1999, after several years of fund-raising, they erected a statue of a 1970′s man standing at one of the central intersections of the town. The mural painted on the wall behind it depicts a flat-bed Ford truck with a beautiful girl in the drivers’ seat. The area is called Standin’ on the Corner Park.
Here’s a link with the full history…there’s even a festival, in late September!http://standinonthecorner.com/
Terry and I so love The Eagles. We usually listen to them on the way to the beach.
